Jean Despres was one of the most important Designers & Goldsmiths of the Art Deco Period & subsequent years spanning his career.His Designs captured the essence of the Moderniste Movement & of the Machine Age.

The Chronology of the work of Jean Despres can be divided by the gradually evolving style of his pieces.

The early pieses are characterised by the purity of their shape & minimal dceoration of Martele finish,with spheres,cabouchons,strap work & sometimes exotic woods.

The next period has a polished silver plate finish with fine beaded decoration & use of other rare & exotic materials.The subsquent pieces are characterised by a bold flattened curb chain decoration with the polished silverpalte finish.

He exhibited widely at all the International Exhibitions & Paris Salon.He also cultivated professional associations with several other important craftsman of the period,The Potter Jean Mayadon,with whom he organised joint independant exhibitions throughtout their careers & Glass Artist Etienne Cournault,particularly known for his reverse painted glass.He also incorporated their creations in his own pieces,predominantly in his jewellery,mounting ceramic & glass panels,these pieces are extremely rare & highly collectable.
