A very fine pencil drawing preparatory sketch for the decoration of a vase (As shown).

Rene Buthaud was an accomplished artist & after receiving a scholarship studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he concentrated his studies on Painting & Engraving.Buthaud exhibited his work at the Paris Salon & received the second Prix de Rome in 1914 for his engraving.Encouraged by two fellow artists working in Bordeaux,Jean Dupas & Rene Bissiere,Buthaud began to experiment with ceramics as a medium for his art & his career as an ceramacist began.

Many of his ceramic pieces exhibit his artistic talent  & training with their figural images freely painted with great skill & style.

Signed with initials in the bottom righthand side corner.
