JOËl & JAN MARTEL (1896-1966) Art Deco Period Sports Car Pencil Sketch.

thumbnail654

A Fine Pencil Sketch depicting a speeding racing car set against a backgroung of overlapping geometric shapes.

The sketch is probably a preparatory drwaing for a larger work, either sculptural or perhaps a Graphic work. The image is related to one of the decorative sculptural bas-relief created for Le Pavillion des Renseignements et du Tourisme at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes,Paris 1925.I have also seen a version of a similar image as this but finished in Gouache which could indicate that the design was for a graphic work, perhaps a poster design.Another related image is for a bas-relief created for the monument to Edouard Gammont,1931.

Joel & Jan Martel were important & influential Artists,Sculptors & Designers of the Art Deco Period & were founding members of the Union Artistes Moderne,Paris.

Dimensions:Image size 19cm by 19cm,the overall size of 42cm by 42cm.
